Where to connect the active Beolab speakers
You need to connect your Beolab speakers via Powerlink the output – marked PL OUT
Which products can be connected to PL A and PL B?
Neo Hub Basic has two Powerlink inputs (PL A og PL B).
Here you can connect Bang & Olufsen products or Neo products with Powerlink exit.
Typically, the inputs are used for:
- et B&O music system
- et B&O TV
- et Neo product
Both inputs work the same.

Examples of Neo products
Neo Hub Basic can also be connected to other Neo products with Powerlink.
Examples:
- Neo TV
- Neo 7
- Neo 10
This makes it possible to combine older B&O systems with newer TVs or other sound sources.
Typical installation
A common setup might be:
- PL A: Beosound 9000 (music)
- PL B: Neo TV or Beovision TV (TV sound)
Both sources can then automatically share the same speakers via Neo Hub Basic.
Profiles – how Neo Hub Basic chooses which source to play
Neo Hub Basic can have two different audio sources connected at the same time, for example a TV and a music system. When both products are active, Neo Hub Basic needs to know which source should have access to the speakers.
To make this easy, Neo Hub Basic offers two different profiles. One profile prioritizes the most recently used source, while the other maintains the first active source as the main source. So you can choose the function that best suits the way you use the system.
You can choose between the following profiles:
| Profile | Explanation |
|---|---|
| Profile 1 | The last turned on source plays |
| Profile 2 | The first switched on source has priority |

Profile 1
The last source turned on plays.
Profile 2
The first source turned on is the main source. If another source is used temporarily, the sound will return to the main source when it stops.
| Other specifications | Profile 1 | Profile 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Who is playing? | Last active source | First active source has priority |
| Priority changes | Ja | No |
| Typical use | Switch freely between sources | One main source |
Note
Change profile by turning the switch on the Neo Hub Basic
Set it to either 1 or 2
When does Neo Hub Basic switch to the other source?
Neo Hub Basic continuously monitors the two connected Powerlinksources and detects when an audio source becomes active or inactive.
An input change typically occurs when:
Bang & Olufsen products handle mute and standby differently depending on product generation and software.
On some products, the mute information is sent directly via Powerlinkconnection. On other products, the sound is muted internally within the product without changing the state of the speakers.
Therefore, some products can switch between PL A and PL B both when turned off and muted, while others only switch when turned off.
The table below shows some typical examples. The list is indicative and not a complete overview of all Bang & Olufsen products.
| Product | Switch on power off | Change when muted |
|---|---|---|
| Beocenter 9300 | Ja | Ja |
| Beocenter 2300 | Ja | Ja |
| Beosound 9000 | Ja | Ja |
| Beosound 4 | Ja | Ja |
| Beocenter 2 | Ja | Ja |
| Beosound Essence | Ja | No |
| Beosound Core | Ja | No |
Older Bang & Olufsen products often use Powerlinkprotocol to control the state of the speakers. When Mute is pressed, the Neo Hub Basic therefore perceives the product as inactive and can switch to the other source.
Newer products like Beosound Core and Beosound Essence typically mute the sound internally in the product. Here is PowerlinkThe connection remains active, and Neo Hub Basic therefore does not necessarily register a mute as a signal to switch input.
This means that the safest way to get the Neo Hub Basic to switch to the other source is always to put the product in standby.
Rule of thumb
If a product is put into standby, Neo Hub Basic will always be able to detect this. Whether pressing Mute results in an input change depends on the specific Bang & Olufsen product and its Powerlink-implementation.
Deeper explanation about switching between input A and B
Profile 1 – Automatic switching between PL A and PL B
Neo Hub Basic can have two Powerlink sources connected:
PL A og PL B.
In Profile 1, Neo Hub Basic automatically selects the source that was last activated . The active source sends sound to the speakers.
If the active source is turned off or muted , the other source automatically takes over.
| handling | Results |
|---|---|
| PL A is turned on. | PL A player |
| PL B is turned on | PL B takes over and plays |
| PL B is turned off or muted | PL A takes over |
| PL A turns on while PL B plays | PL A takes over |
| PL A is turned off or muted | PL B takes over |
| Both off | No sound |
Example
- Beosound 9000 connected PL A
- Neo TV connected PL B
- You turn on Beosound 9000 → music is playing.
- You turn on TV → The TV takes over the speakers.
- Du mute TV → music from Beosound 9000 continues.
Note
A B&O or Neo product can stop the sound in two ways:
- standby (red dot on the remote control or product)
- Mute (press in the middle between volume up and down on the B&O remote control)
Both actions will cause the Neo Hub Basic to switch to the other active source.
The source that becomes active last always takes over the speakers.
The priority changes all the time.
Example:
- A lights up → A player
- B lights up → B player
- A turns on again → A player
- B lights up again → B player
The system always follows the last activity.
One can therefore say:
Profile 1 = dynamic priority
Profile 2 – Priority by first active source
Neo Hub Basic has two Powerlink inputs:
- PL A
- PL B
In Profile 2, the priority is determined by the first source that is turned on.
The first active source gets priority. The second source can temporarily take over the sound, but the priority does not change until all sources are turned off.
Profile 2 works as a priority management :
- The first source turned on gets priority
- The second source can temporarily take over
- When it stops, the sound returns to the priority source
The priority is only reset when both sources have been turned off.
The first source to turn on determines which source is the main source.
The other source may play temporarily, but if it stops, the sound will return to the priority source.
The priority does not change until both sources have been turned off.
Example:
- A lights up → A has priority
- B lights up → B player
- B stops → A plays again
If A stops:
- B continues playing
But when A is turned on again:
- A takes over again, because A has priority.
One can say:
Profile 2 = fixed priority
Basic principle
Situation | Results |
|---|---|
| First product is switched on at PL A | PL A gets priority |
| First product is switched on at PL B | PL B gets priority |
| The second source is turned on | It plays |
| The active source is muted or turned off. | The sound returns to the priority source. |
| All sources are turned off. | The priority is reset. |
Example 1 – PL A gets priority
| handling | Results |
|---|---|
| PL A is turned on. | PL A player |
| PL B is turned on | PL B player |
| PL B is turned off. | PL A player |
| PL A is turned off. | No sound |
Example 2 – PL B gets priority
| handling | Results |
|---|---|
| PL B is turned on | PL B gets priority |
| PL A is turned on. | PL A player |
| PL A is muted or turned off | PL B player |
| PL A is turned on again | PL A player |
| PL A mutes | PL B player |
Example of using Profile 2
| Step | handling | Results |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | TV is turned on (e.g. LG TV via Neo 7 of PL A) | The TV sound plays in the speakers |
| 2 | Beosound 9000 is switched on PL B | Music takes over the speakers |
| 3 | TV continues with picture | Music playing from Beosound 9000 |
| 4 | Beosound 9000 mute or stop | The TV sound is coming back. |
| 5 | Beosound 9000 turns on again | Music takes over again |
| 6 | Music mouth | The TV sound is coming back. |
Results
- TV can continue with picture without sound
- Music can temporarily take over the speakers
- When the music is stopped or muted, the sound returns to the TV
